Baz Luhrmann the direct of The Great Gatsby, made the 2013 film a more modern interpretation of the novel,purpose of the film was to show that greed is the human condition that never ends. This theme can be seen by the two protagonist in the film. Gatsby an egotistical person who can’t satisfy his loneliness always throws parties to get Daisy his love interest to show up. And Nick a yale grad who gets addict to the wealthy and luxurious lifestyle from hanging out with Gatsby. Nick the main protagonist hang out with his cousin Daisy and went to a party that was hosted by Gatsby. Here is where he met Gatsby and build lust for the rich lifestyle. As he spends more time with Gatsby he see Daisy and Gatsby true characters and their love affairs. Nick sees Gatsby as an idealistic who has a vision that he could change his past and recaptures it. This movie had two major scenes in that change the mood dramatically. Tom was frustrated with Gatsby always being around Daisy. He did not understand that Daisy and Gatsby had loved each other for 5 years. When Gatsby tells Tom, Daisy is leaving him he flips and blows a fuse almost causing a fight between the two. This scene has a mood shift in the movie before this point the movie was fun time party place until now where it become a heated love triangle. The second is the argument between Wilson and Myrtle fighting scene. The death of Myrtle was totally her fault as she runs in front of Gatsby’s car which later on Gatsby will have to pay the ultimate price for this. Wilson goes out to Gatsby’s house and take his life with one bullet getting revenge for what wasn’t even his fault for. In the movie whites are the only race that exist in the wealthy world.
