Nick Carraway, the narrator, is an upper class American that moves from the west to the East to New York City. Nick went to war but is back now and moved to the East for better success to become a bond trader.Nick moves to West Egg, a town that is on Long Island. Nick rents a home at eighty a month right next to Jay Gatsby’s mansion. Nick comes from a wealthy family, and is considered to be “old rich.” Nick has many mansions as neighbors including Gatsby’s, but in front of his house is a large bay which whom his cousin Daisy lives across from.Nick get’s invited to dinner at his cousins who he hasn’t seen since before the war. He liked seeing Daisy, but he wasn’t a big fan of her husband Tom. When Nick goes back to his house he spots his neighbor Gatsby for the first time, Gatsby was staring at a green light on the dock that was in the direction of Daisy’s house. …show more content…

Nick is invited to accompany Tom, a blatant adulterer, to meet his mistress, Myrtle Wilson, a middle-class woman whose husband runs a modest garage and gas station in the valley of ashes. After the group meets and journeys into the city, Myrtle phones friends to come over and they all spend the afternoon drinking at Myrtle and Tom's apartment. Drunkenness turns to rage and Tom, in one deft movement, breaks Myrtle's nose. After that Nick goes to one of Gatsby’s house parties, with whom he meets Jordan Baker whom he had an attraction to. Gatsby pulled Jordan to the side and discusses something with her which the book doesn’t go into detail what. When Nick and Jordan were having tea, Nick found out that Gatsby liked his cousin Daisy. Gatsby asks Nick to invite Daisy to his little house where Gatsby will show up
