Gulliver's Travels and The Great Gatsby are each considered to be two of the most remarkable and noteworthy novels of all time. Each of these novels tells a story about two completely different characters whose worlds are vastly distinctive from each other. Though there are many differences between each story, they both individually hold specific elements where the reader may pick apart the novels one by one and find a connection enclosed by the two. In the novel, Gulliver's Travels, one of the major themes covered in this story is focused on how a society of people (or in this case, creatures) can affect and greatly influence a human being. The Great Gatsby focuses on society's views on many different things such as wealth and affluence. They hold such great roles in the actions of people and can dominate the way a person will think, live their lives, and the way they treat others around them. Though many others will differ, I consider The Great Gatsby to have two main characters – Nick and Jay. Nick's character is more of a respectable and almost hushed demeanor. Jay's character is quite the opposite. Jay is more of the wealthy, flashy-flashy type. Throughout the story, Nick views firsthand the type of people that Jay is surrounded by. They are stuck-up, money-hungry, and will do or say whatever it is they feel the need to in order to make themselves look even more superior in the eyes of other people. This causes Nick to become sickened by what he sees and he cannot seem to understand how these people are able to willingly act so repulsively.
