Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have hundreds of millions of dollars in today's society? In the Great Gatsby book and the Wolf of Wall Street movie, we see characters Gatsby and Jordan, the protagonists of their stories, get consumed in the riches of their wealth, and the extravagant, chaotic lifestyle that comes with it. We see money impact the personas of these characters and the decisions that they make throughout their stories. In these two stories, we see Jay Gatsby and Jordan Belfort's desires and aspirations for wealth slowly start to take over and consume their lives and result in greed directly affecting their persona and actions. Gatsby's death resulted from a broken George Wilson, who wanted to avenge the death of his wife. Jordan's demise stemmed from his fraudulent and illegal activities he committed while working at his firm. Gatsby’s problems throughout the story were more relationship-oriented, since he was so out of touch with reality and society. Jay Gatsby and Jordan Belfort undergo negative character development throughout their own stories because of wealth, which affects their personality and how they started acting. They both started to let wealth control them, and their actions and thinking ultimately led to the downfall and demise of both of these characters. The characters' story arc throughout the plot highlights the idea that desires and aspirations for wealth can slowly start to take over and consume their lives and results in greed directly affecting their persona and actions. I think many of the similarities in this story stem from how Gatsby and Belfort articulate themselves and their persona with their wealth. They both wear fancy clothes, and talk with others in a sort of unique tone and aura that makes them stand
