Living Life To The Fullest Most people like to dream big when they are little and wonder if they will ever accomplish those dreams when they get older. The key part of living life is to strive for your dreams and don't give up till you get there or die trying. Scott Fitzgerald, writer of the novel The Great Gatsby, and E.E. Cummings, writer of the poem “anyone lived in a pretty how town,” convey a similar theme in their works through the use of tone, imagery, diction, symbolism, and motifs. Both selections are about living life and reveal that the world won't care about you so just do you. In The Great Gatsby the tone is nostalgic because of the way Nick our narrator portrays the story. Green shows the deep love that Gatsby seeked to find in Daisy and his drive to the American Dream. Another color would be grey that Wilson represents due to his lack of feelings and him working in The Valley of Ashes. His character at the end of the novel is the killer of Gatsby and even kills himself. The setting of the story helps the motif that is the time period of the Roaring 20s. The fact that we are in New York city a money seeking rich city, with two separate types of rich people living in either West or East Egg shows different values of people. Along with the city rich people the story also includes The Valley of Ashes to represent a depressing side and social drop of America. The Valley of Ashes is also a symbolism to the decline of American Society in which Wilson is proof of it being a main character. The Eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg symbolise God watching over the Valley of Ashes as if the people look up to see them and think of how God must be looking at
