Many examples prove the tight friendship between the main characters. George says if he did not have to take care of Lennie, maybe he could have a girl and life would be so much easier. Things must not be so bad if he has stayed with him for so long. Also, working on a ranch can be lonely but George and Lennie have each to avoid that feeling. Even, Lennie tries to show George that he can do things for him and not be a burden; he offers to give George his ketchup, if they had any, hypothetically. On the other hand, Nick and Gatsby’s friendship grows stronger over the novel. From the start Nick was the only one actually invited to Gatsby’s party. Later, Jay asks Nick to invite Daisy over so he can see her after all of these years. Finally, at Gatsby’s funeral, Nick was the one to organize it and let everyone know the date. In the end, Carraway was the only one by Gatsby’s side.

In conclusion, Of Mice and Men and The Great Gatsby both have characters with a very close relationships. Lennie’s, George’s, Nick’s and Gatsby’s actions show how their friendship was almost a brotherhood.

Because of the time the books are set, the way women are treated is different in each setting.
