Humor is used to bring out the traits in the characters. This is displayed through the characters of Jerry, George, and Surfer Guy. The sarcastic personality of Jerry is shown through the use of humor. Jerry says, “so someone comes in to buy an old lamp and all of the sudden I’m getting them out of a jam? I could see if I was a pharmacist because a pharmacist knows what’s with everyone that comes in” (1418). This shows how Jerry speaks with a very sarcastic tone. His personality begins to develop for the reader to feel more connected to him. Jerry says to George, Jerry. “you know why? Surfer Guy’s personality is shown to be very expressive and it gives the listener an idea of who he is.
