What does Gatsby do or have that makes him “The Great Gatsby”? Gatsby is great because he has many contacts that could do him favors or that could help him out. Now, these contacts are mysterious, but contacts are contacts but in Gatsby's case it is important to know people like that. He is also know for throwing parties with drinks, music, food and many people from different places that attend even though they weren't invited, which makes the party even bigger since literally anyone can go to the party. Another thing Gatsby is great is because of his money. He doesn't have the money physically, but you can tell because of the house he built, the car he has and the clothes that he owns. Although we aren't so sure of it in the beginning, we have an idea of what he might be into. Gatsby was a bootlegger which is an organized crime that includes distributing illegal alcohol. In page 69 it shows us the people that Gatsby knew such as “his friend Mr. Wolfsheim. In page 70-71 It states that Mr. Wolfsheim says, “I understand you are looking for a business gonnegtion" and Gatsby replies with “This is just a friend. I told you we’d talk about that some other time.” A quote that shows us what business Gatsby is into in in page 61 which says “He’s a bootlegger, said the young ladies, moving somewhere between his cocktails and his flowers. One time he killed a man who had found out that he was nephew to Von Hindenburg and second cousin to the devil.” The last quote that makes you wonder about Gatsby and his friends is in page 72 which states” “ I see you're looking at my cuff buttons... finest specimen of human molars. ” Gatsby introduces his friend Mr. Wolfsheim to Nick but wolf shier though that nick was “looking for a business gonnegtion.” This makes Nick wonder why “Gatsby’s friend” asked him that and even after Wolfsheim asked that Gatsby still told him that they would talk about that some other time. Although this might be false or true in the beginning nick started to figure out maybe he was in business he shouldn't be in due to the rumors and the friends that Gatsby would be with. The Third quote makes you wonder why in the world would he have human molar cuff buttons. This could be because Hes a gambler and someone got in his bad side and didn't have the money and so Wolfsheim had to take matters into his own hands This now shows us that Gatsby was a bootlegger and that he was in illegal businesses. Even though it didn't tell us straight up what business Gatsby was in we got an idea of what he was due to the rumors and the contacts that Gatsby
