Fitzgerald could have been thinking anything when he stopped his words mid sentence. Based on what he was saying and the context of the words, we can guess that he most likely stopped his sentence because anything can happen one fine morning. There are so many possibilities to what could happen in the future. There truly isn’t a way to tell what is going to happen the next morning. Things could go positively and Fitzgerald could be talking about how we move into the future without holding on to the past and we continue to look forward. We have our goals set correctly and our future is looking bright. But, he could also be talking about the negative side of what could happen. I believe that this was a good sentence to leave with an open ending because then it gives the reader a chance to finish it. It shows the reader what side they believe they are on. Are they planning on moving forward with no strings attached? Or do they not want to let go? Nick believes that one fine morning everything will be in the past and we will continue to move forward. We can see this when he talks about time not stopping to wait for someone who wants to stay in the past and how he talks about the boats moving forward and us reaching out further and further everyday. Eventually the boats will be past everything that is happening right now. The boats represent us and therefore we are going to get past this eventually. One day we are going to wake up and all of this will be behind us. Nick understands and feels that this is true. Unlike Gatsby he is moving forward and he isn’t trying to bring the past with him.
