Sometimes we can be blinded by the illusion in life, and that’s the case of illusion vs reality in The Great Gatsby. In Gatsby's life, he created multiple illusions based on the lies that he told and ignored the fact that he was in. Gatsby created an illusion for himself because he can't face the truth of reality which he is in, sometimes people can create an illusion for themselves to escape reality but that is not a good option to lose your reality because you are going to become very delusional and lose track of your goals in life. Gatsby's life is filled with many illusions, such as the one with him and Daisy. Gatsby thinks he can bring back their love in the past by repeating the past, not knowing that she has moved on from him, and that illusion keeps him trying to be with Daisy. The fact that he cannot accept the truth that Daisy has moved on has created an illusion that he will follow. Gatsby also uses illusions and lies that he came from wealthy parents by throwing a party to get Daisy with him. Fitzgerald uses symbolism and imagery to explore the contrast between illusion and reality in a way that they are connected and each character has their illusion and reality but they have to learn to live with the reality that they are in.
