"There’s no such thing as good money, or bad money. There's just money" (Luciano). F. Scott Fitzgerald is widely thought to be to greatest author to have written during the 1920's. Many of his works today give us insight of what life was like for him during this time. The Great Gatsby is a great example of this. F. Scott Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby takes his style of writing known as double vision to illustrate The American Dream and Gatsby as a symbolic figure of the 1920's.

In 1930 Zelda was institutionalized for treatment of her condition” (Magnum 4). After her medical condition worsened the majority of Fitzgerald’s time went into working so he could pay for her treatments. He moved to Hollywood to work for MGM and continue to pay for her treatment while she was in an institution in the east. Zelda died on March 10 1948 in Asheville, North Carolina. Fitzgerald found some success during his life with his novels, but he gained the most success after his death with The Great Gatsby. He died in 1940 in Hollywood, California before he could finish his last novel, The Last Tycoon. He died of a heart attack at age 44. Tom insists that Nick meet his mistress named Myrtle. They end up drunk and in an argument where the end result is Tom giving Myrtle a broken nose for speaking about his wife Daisy. During all of this Nick learns of Gatsby’s wild parties. Eventually in chapter 3 Nick attends one of Gatsby’s wild parties. There he meets Jordan Baker for the 2nd time. At the same party, Nick runs into Gatsby outside without knowing it is him at first. In chapter 4 the audience is told of rumors of Jay Gatsby’s occupation. Jay explains to Nick that he went to Oxford and is the son of a rich Midwestern family. Jay takes Nick to the city and they meet Mr.Wolfsheim, who is accused of fixing the 1919 World Series. They run into Jordan who tells Nick how Daisy and Gatsby first met. They devise a plan to get Daisy and Gatsby together
