The American Dream by: Anna Doerr There are many ways people think of the American dream now, such as freedom, white fences, fireworks, and American food. In The Great Gatsby, the theme is the American dream, Gatsby's life embodies the American dream back then. He was rich with a big house, and pool, he had lavish parties, and most of all he did this all for the love of a girl. The American Dream surrounds the idea of if you work hard enough for it, it will get you anywhere or anything you desire. Such as how Gatsby goes through all this work and effort to get the girl. The American Dream is visioned differently depending on where you are from or what time period you are talking about. The Great Gatsby views the American dream as labor and hard work that will get you to want what you want. This dream is used as inspiration to motivate people to work for what they want because it's not just wanna happen unless you make it happen. Daisy grew up rich with many luxuries. Gatsby was smitten with Daisy but he knew that he was nowhere near Daisy's social status. So he knew what he had to do to get Daisy and her attention he worked and worked and worked until he had his own luxuries enough to impress Daisy and more. “Angry, and half in love with her, and tremendously sorry, I turned away,”Gatsby said.
