In the novel, The Great Gatsby. by F. Scott Fitzgerald. He shows how unattainable the American Dream can be and the failures of it. An example of the American dream in The Great Gatsby is Gatsby chasing Daisy, which ends when Gatsby gets killed. Daisy dreams of wanting to escape her marriage to Tom to be with Gatsby but later moves somewhere else with Tom, and Wilson wants to live in the West with Myrtle and live in an upper class where Myrtle gets killed making him depressed. The whole time she’s with Tom, she doesn’t feel the same as she does with Gatsby. “But she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon and taken baggage with them. “left no address?’’ “No” “say when they’d be back?” “No.” (Fitzgerald 164) At the end as Gatsby dies, she has Tom left and decided to move away. Overall, for Daisy, the dream was to be with who she wanted instead of feeling confused. She loved Tom and Gatsby, but couldn’t decide who to go with.
