The Great Gatsby is a famous novel written by author, Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald in 1925. F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 24,1896. In his early life, Fitzgerald admired writing. When he was 15 years old, he attended a Catholic school in New Jersey. At this school he met Father Sigourney Fay, who encouraged him to pursue his writing ambitions. Later in his life, in 1924, he moved to France. In Valescure, France, Fitzgerald was inspired to write what would soon be credited as his greatest novel, The Great Gatsby. This novel portrays an important principal that money can not buy happiness in life. Although the night life was glamorous for Gatsby, when the lights went out, Daisy was the only one who could bring him happiness. He was seen by others as a rich and wealthy man who looked like he had everything he could ever wish for. Little did they know, he spent every night dwelling over his lost love, staring at the green light from her house across the bay. The title of this book, The Great Gatsby, is highly ironic. The name Gatsby is associated with the word “great”, Gatsby is viewed as a “great” man because of his wild lifestyle and the amount of money he has. But, a man can only be so “great” in his life without having happiness, so really he has nothing. In the beginning of the book, Nick lets the readers know a piece advice his father gave him. ”Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told him, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.” (Fitzgerald, F. Scott. The Great Gatsby. New York, NY: Scribner, 1996. Page 1.). This quote sets the tone for the novel, to not judge the lives of other because you do not know what they are experiencing in their lives. Gatsby's lifestyle was viewed as a life goal to others because they valued and wanted what he had. Though, they did not know they had in their lives what Gatsby valued most important, happiness and love, which money could not buy for him.
 In conclusion to this book review, The Great Gatsby, was a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald that I had the pleasure of reading. The Great Gatsby has resulted in six major film productions ranging from 1926-2013. The novel and all six films put a lot of life's values into perspective. Jay Gatsby’s wealth was unable to buy him the only thing he yearned for most, love and happiness. In the eyes of others he seemed as if he had everything he could possibly want right there in front of
