The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The publication date is April 10th, 1925. The book did not sell very well at first. There also was not very many awards given out for books during the 1920’s so The Great Gatsby did not receive any awards until later on. F. Scott Fitzgerald died December 21st, 1940. He is known as one the greatest writers in the 20th century. The Great Gatsby is Fitzgerald’s most well known book he has ever written. In The Great Gatsby, the main events take place in the summer of 1922. The narrator of the book is a character named Nick Carraway. Nick graduated from Yale and was a veteran of World War 1. Gatsby is a strong willed character who was determined to be rich. Gatsby was seen many of times reaching for a green light at the end of Daisy’s dock. Gatsby was in love with Daisy he once said “ once I kissed this girl I would be forever wed to her.” Towards the end of the summer Nick realizes Gatsby is in love with Daisy as she is him. Tom soon finds out making all hell break loose. Daisy runs over Myrtle Tom’s mistress and Gatsby takes the blame. Mr.Wilson soon finds out Gatsby was the owner of the car. Mr.Wilson turned into a mad man causing him to shoot and kill himself and Gatsby. Tom and Daisy carelessly leave as always leaving someone to clean up the mess. The relationships in the book are based on materialism rather than love. In the Great Gatsby money is everything, everyone is after it. Gatsby’s whole life he wanted to better himself. He soon realized to do so he had to make something of himself. Gatsby soon met this young lady named Daisy Fay she was the golden girl. Gatsby quoted “ her voice is full of money”. Gatsby was attracted to Daisy because she would help him achieve his goals of becoming wealthy. However, Gatsby fell in love with Daisy because she had money something he did not have. Soon , after they began their love affair Gatsby had to head off to war leaving Daisy behind. They wrote to each other and Gatsby asked Daisy to wait on him but that is something she could not do. Daisy married Tom Buchanan because money was more important than love to her. Another relationship in the book that is based on money is Tom and Myrtle’s. Myrtle thinks cheating with Tom will improve her life because Tom has money and her husband Mr. Wilson does
