The Great Gatsby is interesting to year 12s because it shows the importance of staying true to yourself when chasing your dreams, this may not occur in our high school days but because we are about to head into adulthood this is very important for us to learn now. It’s hard for everyone to move on from someone or something that once made them happy but sometimes it’s for the best. “Can't repeat the past? Why of course you can!” This quote shows how Gatsby is so confident with Daisy leaving Tom that he carries on living the way he has been for the past 5 years, lying and trying to win Daisy back and believes he is going to win her love. This is because he now has everything she wanted him to have in the past, but what Gatsby doesn't realise is that in the past 5 years daisy has changed. Year 12s can easily be caught up in the past whether it is over someone passing that was close to them, young love or an injury recovery. Everyone in high school will experience one of these examples and won't let it go, we can relate to this in a real life situation because this still carries on to this present day.
