Is Gatsby’s Love Genuine? The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The novel was published in 1925 to great reviews and, almost overnight, turned Fitzgerald into one of the country's most promising young writers, at only the age of 24. In The Great Gatsby a young man named Gatsby seemingly falls into deep love for a young woman named Daisy, but is his love genuine or does he think of her as a trophy? Gatsby did lie to Daisy a numerous amount of times, in his mind this was improving his chances with her because he thought that if he could impress her she would fall in love with him. Also Gatsby may not truly love daisy because he never reached out to her pre-wealth not even a letter which seems like he only wanted her as a trophy. …show more content…

“Gatsby to Daisy:"Daisy that’s all over now." he said earnestly. " It doesn't matter any more. Just tell him the truth-that you never loved him-and it's all wiped out forever." She looked at him blindly. "Why,-how could I love him-possibly"..." I never loved him," she said, with perceptible reluctance.... "Oh you want too much!" she cried to Gatsby. "I love you now-isn't that enough? I can't help what's past." She began to sob helplessly. " I did love him once-but I loved you too." Gatsby's eyes opened and closed, "You loved me too?" he repeated.” This shows that Daisy may love Gatsby back and they might not turn out to be star crossed lovers. During a scene where the group is in a hotel room with the sun beating down on them a conversation is struck up involving who Daisy really loves, it's going well for Gatsby until Tom finds a soft spot, Gatsby loses his temper he grabs Tom by his collar, raising his fist menacingly. Daisy screams for him to stop and he does, Gatsby apologizes profusely but at this point Tom knows he has won the argument. Tom allows Daisy and Gatsby to ride home together, believing it will be awkward. On the ride Daisy decides she wants to drive believing it will allow her to blow off some steam. They're driving for a bit until a woman runs out into the street, Daisy isn't able to stop on time and kills the woman instantly. Gatsby
