During the early-mid 17th century American, culture experience many innovations as the country grew in population and modernization. One of the more notable innovators during this time were Sarah and Angelina Grimké. The Grimké sisters were activists for civil and women’s rights (Roark, James L; Johnson, Michael P; Cohen, Patricia Cline; Stage, Sarah; Hartmann, Susan M;, 2014). The Grimké sisters grew up in South Carolina to a prominent judge in South Carolina who owned slaves on their plantation. The sister’s radical views on slavery and women’s rights were developed within their family.
