This past week has been rough for the Robinson family. After a racist jury choose to make an innocent man guilty things went from bad to worse. Atticus Finch was chosen to defend Tom Robinson. This particular case was against Mayella Ewell, a white woman. As a black man Tom was already at a disadvantage.
Considering all the facts given during the trial, I believe Tom Robinson to be innocent. During the trial, four key people gave testimonies and underwent cross examination. Mr.Heck Tate, Tom Robinson, Mayella Ewell, and Bob Ewell’s testimonies give significant evidence that Tom Robinson not only did not rape Mayella Ewell, but he is incapable of committing such a physically taxing crime. On the other hand, Bob Ewell, “Mayella’s father, is capable and possibly had a history of abusing her. Tom Robinson is not guilty, because no medical evidence of rape that was ever tested found, Tom Robinson’s crippled arm would have made it impossible to hit Mayella in her right eye, and an insinuation of Bob Ewell’s abuse towards Mayella and dominant left
Ladies and gentelmen, the State will review the evidence against Sherrif Heck Tate who let his ignorance influence his decision to conduct a poor investigation of a crime scene. The defendant was called out to the Ewell’s home, and he was supposed to seek medical attention for the victim, and investigate the crime scene. Instead all he did was listen to Mr. Ewell, the father of the victim, and Mayella Ewell, the victims, accounts of the event, where they accused Tom Robinson of assulting and raping Mayella. Tom
The eighth amendment is related to the To Kill A Mockingbird story because they wanted to give Tom Robinson the death penalty for something he didn't do. He was accused of rape, but they didn't give him a fair trial. So it was cruel and unusual punishment and false testament in this situation. Black people would get death penalties or life in prison if they committed a crime.

The United States prides itself on the principle of equality. In the Declaration of Independence, the very basis of the nation, it states "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Despite this promise, Maycomb county lacks the humanity and fairness that America promises. Not only do the whites of the county show obvious contempt for the blacks, but they are willing to go as far as to murder one, Tom Robinson, in cold blood, depriving him of the basic right promised by our great country. Tom deserves the appeal due to the biased jury, the insubstantial physical evidence given by Mayella, Mr. Ewell, and Heck Tate, and the
Tom was accused of raping a white woman who was Mayella Ewell, Mayella said he raped her while he was helping her with chores. She later on tells the readers that it was false allegations. The reason why she didn 't tell the truth at her first trial was because, Mayella was afraid of being embarrassed because she kissed a black male. She rather have an innocent man get charged with a crime than that. “However, Robinson was transferred from the state prison to Maycomb 's county jail on Saturday, two days before he stood trial on Monday, and Atticus had to defend him against a lynch mob”.
Dear Members of the Jury, I am writing you this letter to tell to you that Tom Robinson should be proven not guilty. This case would have never happened if the truth would have been told and it wasn’t a case between black and white. There are many ways that Robinson is not guilty. One of these reasons that Tom Robinson is not guilty is that if you listened to the Sheriff 's testimony he stumbled frequently and when he said something and then Atticus would say something different he would agree with Atticus. Tom Robinson is a very polite man with great manners, which you could take into consideration that he wouldn’t dare hurt this woman in this kind of manner.
Tom Robinson was a guilty man even before he even entered the courtroom; along with all the other African-Americans living in the south at that time. Even though it was obvious that he was innocent, due to the evidence pointed out by his lawyer, Atticus Finch, he was found guilty merely due to his race. It’s pretty obvious that the theme in “To Kill a Mockingbird” is racism and prejudice, and the discrimination of the African-American community was the most evidently shown. For example, the blacks were regarded as tools or objects to be used in labour, and were given very little, to basically no rights. Even in the trial, blacks and whites sat in separate sections, and all the members of the jury were white!

In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch and his children Scout and Jem live in the prejudice town of Maycomb, Alabama. In the town they have many misconceptions of things such as Boo Radley, who has not been seen out of his house for fifteen years ever since he was caught causing a disturbance but the children soon figure out what really occurred after he got into trouble. As the story progresses Atticus accepts the request to defend a colored man named Tom Robinson which affects his family in multiple ways. Tom was a dead man the minute Mayella Ewell opened her mouth.” Scout understands that, despite evidence of the contrary, the white jury will believe a white person instead of a black person"(Champion). Even though Tom was innocent just because he wasn 't white he was set to die the moment he stepped into the courtroom. If people saw past his skin color and actually looked at the evidence. Tom would 've been a free man and wouldn 't have had to die.
Tom did her chores only because he felt sorry for her(Doc E). Mayella won the case because she was white and Tom was black. The jury definitely obliterated Tom’s chances of getting
First, Tom Robinson should have been found not guilty because he was right handed. Mayella the victim, was punched in the face on the night of the crime. On page 235, Mr. Heck Tate stated that Mayella had a black eye on her right eye
The saddening thing is, that the whole scenario started because Mayella attempted to seduce Tom, and her father found out. Filled with rage, Mr. Ewell beat his daughter, he found it unacceptable that his daughter fancied a black man. Then, he claimed that Tom raped his daughter to cover everything up. There are even cases such as Tom’s happening to this day, such as the case of Miguel Angel Peña Rodriguez Vs. Colorado. The jury was corrupted by bias thoughts which resulted in an unfair trial.
