In “The Wednesday Wars”, the main character, Holling Hoodhood, seems to form opinions about people pretty quickly, especially Mrs.Baker, Holling’s new 7th teacher. This leads you to having the same opinion about certain characters in the book. However, you should never judge people based on first impressions. The world contains many people, you never do know who they really are and what they are capable of until you them.

After losing his older brother to gun violence, Will Holloman seeks revenge on who he believes is the triggerman. As the story progresses, he is met by the ghosts of those whose lives were taken by gun violence. In Long Way Down, Will’s community, specifically Will and Mikey, is mostly influenced by the intimidation of gang violence and death, which made the act of revenge difficult for Will to carry out.

Long Way Down tells the story of a teenage boy, Will, who is going to seek revenge for the murder of his older brother Shawn. There are rules that Will has to follow so according to the rules he should go after his brother’s murderer. This book shows the negative effects of gun violence and it puts it through the perspective of a teenager.

In the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, Count Dracula is conflicted between the ability to control himself in his emotions and desires while having to keep his own idea of his abilities, appearances, and personality. The one place where guns are not a symbol of power and control is in literature, specifically “The Old Gun” and Hamilton. In Mo Yan’s short story “The Old Gun”, the protagonist is a hungry boy who does not even know how to use the titular firearm.
