The Hanger factory has a turnover rate of 100% every year in three positions, all basic assembly line jobs. Because of these monotonous tasks, employees are experiencing boredom and unnecessary mistakes are costing the company. Job improvement must transpire in order to improve both output and employee satisfaction.
Recommendation
I propose implementing job enrichment for the Hanger factory. I do not recommend implementing job enlargement. In the case of factory workers, an increase in job duties and no increased job title will cause resentment and unwillingness from the employees. The motivational content of the job has not improved. Job rotation also fails to motivate employees. Neither job rotation nor job enlargement provides employees the chance to grow their skills or in the company. They do not allow for development but rather add to their mundane and monotonous jobs. Job enrichment, on the other hand, is beneficial because it does allow for such a growth. A job enrichment strategy involves adding a variety or more complex tasks to a job over a period of time and these tasks are specifically designed to gradually stretch people’s skills and provide them with opportunities. The new tasks are also not demands required but rather presented as opportunities for the employees. This offers a degree of choice, something the other two strategies did not allow for. This choice gives employees a say in what tasks to do and when to do them, giving employees the opportunity to take on more complex tasks when they feel they can handle it. …show more content…
