In the book The Hate You Give" by Angie Thomas, pages 420–444 are about Starr, King, and Maverick,Hailey. They just got done protesting after the grand jury did not put the cop on trial for killing Kahlil. While Starr was protesting, looters started destroying all the shops in the neighborhood, including her dad’s shop. (419) This caused King to be arrested because the neighborhood teamed up blaming King for burning down Maverick's shop.
(Thomas 71) The fact that Starr has two personalities demonstrates that she cannot express herself when in school and cannot relate to her friends; this proves that her friends do not influence her and disproves Harris’s theory that, "peers trump parents” CITATION. On the other hand, Starr’s parents teach her many life lessons which eventually push her to get justice for Khalil (her friend who had a hairbrush ‘mistaken” for a gun). For example, when Starr and her father are talking about the oppression that African-Americans have experienced over the years, he points out,, "Drugs come from somewhere, and they’re destroying our community,... The [addicts] can’t get jobs unless they’re clean, and they can’t pay for rehab unless they got jobs.
Both individuals are seen as the outcasts. She shies away from Ringo fearing that her past may deter him. He acknowledges her past to her and states that he doesn’t care. Dallas attempts to assist Ringo so he is able to flee the stagecoach and no longer be under arrest. Once hearing gunshots from an inbound Apache attack, Ringo stays noble and remains with the stagecoach.
I began to sense the futility one feels when unacknowledged by a chance acquaintance," (Lee 174). Scout confronts the mob leader, Mr. Cunningham, and reminds him of a time when he showed kindness to her family. This act of empathy and courage inspires the mob to disperse, averting a potentially deadly situation. Even though she's a little girl, Scout's bravery and determination to stand up for what's right makes her a true
Starr’s family provides a strong foundation of love and support for her throughout the novel. For example, in Chapter 1, Maverick, Starr’s father, has a conversation with her about the importance of following certain rules during traffic stops with police. While Starr initially resists these “rules,” Maverick explains that they are
To begin with, “Little Rock 9” experienced hate because of the fact that they are black, or African American. For example, “They taunted the black students and sometimes kicked and hit them” (5). This proves that the “Little Rock 9” faced hate in the form of harassment because they would get kicked and hit. This demonstrates hate because they are treated unfairly for no good reason. They are physically and mentally abused for a the fact that they are different.
(O,Thomas, page 267). My final example of Starr using her voice within her neighbourhood is when at the end of the book Starr and lots of other people in the neighbourhood stood up against King and snitched on him for burning down Mavericks store and dealing. Doing this the whole community including Starr was able to take King down and overall make the neighbourhood a much better
Sometimes things happen and you need to be sympathetic. Your personality might be very goofy and fun but you won’t be acting like that at a funeral. The way Starr Learns how to be accept herself and be herself could help other people that also feeling the struggle of not
The article “School of Hate” was written by Sabrina Rubin Erdely, who is an American Magazine writer who lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has written many articles for the likes of Rolling stone, Gentleman’s Quarterly, and The New Yorker. In the article Erdely discusses the bullying and homophobia that happened in the Anoka-Hennepin school district during the mid-2000s. Her article gives both points of view from the kids being bullied, as well as from the religious conservatives who thought that nothing was wrong with the homophobic slurs that were being said to children and teenagers. One may disagree with the perspective of the religious conservatives.
Starr says “ we need to go help daddy protect the store in case looters show up.” Additionally it helps me know more about my theme family and helps me understand a little more about family and how it's great to have someone who is willing to care for you no matter what. This shows how my theme is always somewhere in my book the hate u give. This also shows that the theme family really is common in the book the hate u book .
In “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, two children learn how to “walk in other people’s shoes”. As they grow up, they come to understand other people’s views and emotions by learning about the prejudices that Maycomb County possesses. In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem’s character development demonstrates how understanding the prejudices of society can develop empathy.
Everyone in this world is in some way connected to a community. Each community is filled with many different people with many different backgrounds and many different personalities that make that community the way it is. The community that people are in is just a little part of a person’s identity. A community shapes people into the people they are today, they learn who they are through there community. The community that I am in at school is way different than how I am with my horses at home.
Community helped each other and they also accept some things such as accepting shadrack and blaming Sula for everything while she was alive and feeling bored when she was dead. When Eva’s husband Boy boy left her Eva only had $1.65 and she did not knew what to do. Community helped her Suggs family brought her warm bowl of peas, plate of
This book is about how Jeremy “Jem” Atticus Finch and Jean “Scout” Louise Finch learn important lessons along the story from Atticus. Empathy is the first lesson Scout learns and later demonstrates. The second lesson, courage, is learned by Jem. And the third lesson learned by both Jem and Scout is tolerance. In Harper Lee’s
A community, a complex term that often times elicits various feelings and definitions, generally implies that there are relationships between a group of people that share some common goals, values, the same geographical location, or, perhaps a way of life that reinforces one another. In a community, members choose to associate with, or connect to each other. However, it is only when we take a step back from the activities in our life’s, do we recognize reality and witness the social interactions that occur around us every day. The overarching purpose of this assignment was to go out into the community on two separate occasions to observe the social interactions- paying close attention to evidence of social networks, excluded or exclusive communities,
