We just discussed how the main event went down in the paragraphs above, but there's more to it. After Eleanor came into the room and saw the words written on the wall with blood. A blunt look on Eleanors face, she makes a suggestion to Theodora. Eleanor suggested that there is a probability that the blood was actually just red paint or red nail polish. In the early chapters of the novel, the readers see that Eleanor repeatedly sings a relaxing phrase in her head. “Journeys end in lovers meeting.” (Jackson chapter 2) Shirley Jackson links this to Eleanor to represent ways Eleanor stays calm and brave through the book. By staying brave, Eleanor isn’t losing herself or her mind due to the House playing mind games with its residents. Eleanor stayed calm and rational during this incident. The readers see this especially when she was not over bothered nor under bothered with the bloody words on her wall. The ability for Eleanor to form a strong connection fast with Theodora, depicted when the odd movement across the Hill House scares Eleanor but Theodora reassures her plus upon first meet instantly connecting by exploring around. Eleanor socializing with the others plus having people open up to eachother throughout the book for instance, telling Luke and Theodora about her mothers death as this relieves her from trauma. Also when Eleanor conveys care for Luke as he opens up to her, conveying to the readers she is making efforts to socialize as well as form connections with people. She becomes happier and a better stable verison of herself with the encouragement from the others in the paranormal
