Whether it was under peaceful conditions, like the Hayter family, or due to ethnic discrimination, like the Mirelowitz family, 19th century America flourished with immigrants from all over the world. In 1911, Walter Hayter, a son among thirteen children, sailed to the United States from Purleigh, England and worked on a farm in Michigan until he was able to send for his family. For the most part, the Hayter family migration passed mostly with ease, only facing a complication in the form of illness, which was contracted during their voyage. Fortunately, they were nursed back to full health at a hospital in Ellis Island. Despite the fact that many families simply relocated to America under their own will, many families were forced to leave everything
