Epic Essay Written roughly two millenniums ago in the Ancient Greece empire, The Odyssey has become a highly praised piece of writing, being read by countless people around the globe. Two thousand years later, another exceptional story known as Batman Begins was told through cinematography. Both of these masterpieces have achieved groundbreaking success in having a place in the hearts of its audiences. To begin, both The Odyssey and Batman Begins had plots written under the hero’s journey format. The Odyssey greatly depicted how the gods and higher beings can greatly impact our lives, for better or for worse. Despite this, we can overcome these obstacles and achieve our goals. In book 11, of the Odyssey, “Now came the soul of Anticlea, dead, my mother, daughter of Autolycus, dead now, though living still when I took ship for holy Troy,” This shows that even after learning about about his mother’s death, Odysseus did not give up but continued on his journey. Furthermore, we also learned that loyalty is very important in life. According to book 17, the text states, “But when he knew he heard Odysseus’ voice nearby, he did his best to wag his tail, nose down, with flattened ears, having no strength to move nearer his master.” This helps the reader understand how much the Greeks valued loyalty. In contrast, Batman Begins had an American feel to it with small traces of Eastern culture, depicted through the martial arts and temple in the mountains.
