Grunge (or Seattle Sound) is a genre that is a mixture of other genres such as alternative rock, and originated in Seattle, Washington, US. The early grunge movement revolved around Seattle’s independent record label “Sub Pop” and the underground music scene. The popularity of grunge music had grown by the end of the 1990s, with grunge bands appearing in California, and then emerging in different places all over the world. Bands that aided the growth of grunge music included Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots. Grunge influenced modern rock music with the meaningful and personal lyrics. Typical instruments usually included electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals.
