Physical therapy, usually abbreviated by PTs, is type of care. Its goal is to reduce pain and help you function, move, and live a better physical life. Physical therapy first professional association started out on 1921. Its association was originally called “American Women’s Physical Therapeutic Association”. This Association was led by Mary McMillan. Mary was given the nickname of “Mother of Physical Therapy”, due to her dedication that she gave to the association. She was the first physical therapist aide. The American Women’s Physical Therapeutic Associations changed its name various of times. Meeting these requirements all start by getting your bachelor’s degree at any university. Universities that offer this major are Washington University in St. Louis, University of Pittsburgh, University of Southern California, Northern Arizona University, and there are more universities that you can do this major in. Usually to get a bachelor’s degree you need four years of college. During your four years of university, you had to take certain classes. These classes involve anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, and physics. Physical therapy programs often include, biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, and pharmacology. While doing your major in college you would also have to do your general education, which usually involves math and english. Students must complete a minimum of 30 weeks of clinical work. After you graduate and get your bachelor’s degree, you would have to take a residency program, which typically takes a year to complete. Taking the residency program provides additional training . Also, it provides experience in specialty areas of care, such as in sport and fitness, or nursing homes. You would also need to take a program called “Doctor of Physical Therapy”. They specifically design an exercise treatment for you.Something cool about this career is that you can work in different types of settings, which means you will get the chance to work with many types of people. The physical therapist during World War I, they were known as “reconstruction aides”. Also, this was initially a female dominant profession. I feel like I do have the potential ability for this job. You can always get what you are aiming for, and you know that is what you want, as long as you work hard for something. As one of my many teachers told me, “you control your future and everything that you dream of, you can achieve”. In order to become a physical therapist, I would first have to set it as my goal. Once I have set my mind to that, I would have to major in physical therapy. During college I would take the required classes. Also, I would take internships while I am studying to gain experience. Some internships that were in my interest were in the MLB, NBA, and NFL. Although it does seem like if it were to be a lot of competition to get an internship in the major leagues. It can be considered as a lot of years of schooling, but I can work as long I have been experienced. I feel that I am suited for this career. Physical therapist and athletic trainers are quite the same. So if I were ever to change my mind about becoming an athletic trainer, which I doubt, I can have physical therapist as a backup
