The book House on mango street, by Sandra Cisneros is about a girl names Esperanza and she portrays the heart and soul of this story who brings to attention plenty truths about people in general; truths that include how people put in effort once they have something to loose, going back to a person, even after the damage caused and people tend to want what they cannot have. "Born Bad" the vignette relates to how people put in effort once they have something to loose. Esperanza's Aunt Lupe dies, and she does not need to feel empathy. She feels responsible for it because Esperanza, Lucy and Rachel were mocking her before her passing. While she blames herself “My mother says I was born on an evil day and prays for me.”(124). “Lucy and Rachel pray too. For ourselves and for each other...because of what we did to Aunt Lupe.” (124). This escalation of feeling suggests that Esperanza is maturing emotionally. her father knocked on the door and said please come back, this is the last time. Esperanza dreaming of having a house of her own, what she's always wanted, but because of her age and lack of money and resources she is not able to have it. When Anna starts her so called private war, is when mama tells her to "Don't eat the flan!" But Anna eats it and sticks up for herself. When Anna decides she is going to fulfill her dreams and leave without her moms blessing, "Mama, I'm leaving now." She says that over and over again and hopes her mother will open the door and give her her blessing, which is very important to her. Her mom doesn't open the door so she leaves without her blessings. Esperanza feels proud of herself and from where she came from. Both of the young women realize what it means to follow your own fate and change restrictions in culture, Anna and Esperanza show that you don't need to work in a factory or get married
