1. Describing her house it shows Esperanza is poor, because it 's a small old house. she probably has a bad appearence since the house looks ugly from the outside. Not a lot of knowledge or expirence because the house is small with little space. Fradial, according to the front bad door that is hard to close from the water that affected it. Esperanza also probably feels small with little self esteme, because of the small yard with two buildings next to it, making it look smaller.

1. Esperanza knows she fell in love with the box just didn 't want to admit it. She described it as "a million moths all over the dusty furniture." This means all the darkness and negative is leaving the box and her life. Then, Esperanza describes it as "swan-neck shadows and in out bones." This means after all the negative left she felt god and peacful. It also means she finally excepted how life is and seeing the positive instead of the negatives. When she turns arounf and pretends to not care, everything goes back to normal,she goes back to seeing the negative in life instead of seeing the positive.

1. The theme in this chapter is the power of change. Esperanza does not have the power to change her name. On the other hand she has the power to change Meme 's dog 's name. Meme does not have the complete power to change his name, his mother is the only one who actually has the power for that. Towards the end of the story they talk about the tree as life, when Meme jumps off the tree it represents him changing in life. Meme broke both of his arms jumping, meaning chage in life can be dangerous.
