The author moved readers such as myself to understand the impact of race on cultural differences. The House on Mango Street is a collection of stories, not a chapter book. Each vignette is its own story and has its own meaning or thought behind it. Sandra Cisneros also thought about the young minds that would be reading this by including analogies that can be easily interpreted but have an incredibly significant meaning to it. One vignette that really stood out for its use of analogies was about the trauma she went through when touched and raped, however that was not clearly stated. The book talked about controversial, traumatic experiences because she knew that readers would feel moved by the traumatic events described in the book. This book has so much meaning behind it. Not only does it show diverse cultures, but also the effect skin tone can cause. It also touches on rape, lies, betrayal, bullying, relationships, money problems, etc. The House on Mango Street puts all the many hardships gone through daily into one young woman's life and depicts how no one is perfect in the best way
