“It's small and red with tight steps in the front and windows so small you'd think there holding their breath.”(page 4) Home, is where you feel safe. Home is where you grow up and become the best you. Home is on mango street for Esperanza.The last place she wants to be. Where being beautiful is a curse because the constant fear of being harassed by a male. Where the people who live on mango and streets surrounding dont get the same opportunities because for there race. Those are only two of the disadvantages of living on mango st. Yet Esperanza still has a part of her that leads back to mango and she doesn't want to let go. But during the course of the book she has challenges thrown at her and overcoming them makes her stronger. In other words life will throw many challenges at you as woman that could lead to a lose of innocence and hope.But if you overcome and work through you will get stronger, thats why Esperanza was able to leave mango st. …show more content…

In this vignette Esperanza is shown as a woman you might not be taken seriously. In this vignette Esperanza see boys picking on Sally a friend near the monkey garden, and they won't stop unless they are given a kiss. Esperanza does not like that Sally was pressured to do that kind of stuff, even though Sally was ok with kissing the boys Esperanza felt uneasy about it. Esperanza Runs of to tell one of the boy's mother, but she replies “those kids, she said not looking up from her ironing” (page 97)Esperanza still didn’t like the fact thats the boys were taking advantage of Sally, so she decided to do something about it. She wanted to save Sally but when she got there all Sally said was go home. Esperanza didn't understand why Sally would want to kiss them, as a girl she was not taken seriously. Sometimes being a girl you release because you are a girl you are not taken seriously, but that's ok because someday you will be taken
