In Michael Pollon’s memoir “The Human Bumblebee'', we are introduced to the complex concept that shows us a plant's eye view of society to help us better understand the relationship between humans and the natural world. The idea that things are not as they may seem is expressed deeply along with the ignorance of humans believing that they have control over anything they wish. Humans tend to perceive certain situations and objects only as they would like to but in reality it is not always up to us, It is just as much about the plant choosing the human as it is about the human choosing the plant.

We like to be in control of situations and it makes us feel weak and uncomfortable when we are not. We see this when Pollon says “we’re prone to overestimate our own agency in nature. Many of the activities humans like to think they undertake for their own good purposes” (P.12). The natural thing for humans to do when they are in a position of power is to abuse it. They overstep their boundaries when trying to control situations and decisions, however things may not always be as they seem and that is hard to comprehend for us. This is shown in Illusion of Control when Gino says “For instance, choice has been shown to induce an illusion of control. People behave as if they think they have greater control when they roll dice themselves than when someone else rolls for them” (P. 3). Humans believe that individually they make the best decisions and know what's right. This is what causes them to be so confident in their own choices and decisions rather than others which builds on the point that they believe they have more control then they actually
