Polar opposite to Silver Lining Playbook, Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games shows that she can play a role with mental stability. This proves that she can play a multitude of varying rules. She has impressive chops. In The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, an overly mature sixteen year old in a dystopian society. Kids are put in a battling arena and only one can survive. She is thrown into the arena with one of her love interest Peeta Mellark. In the movies, she plays a very dominant role. Katniss in The Hunger Games, has the responsibility of taking care of her family. She hunts, cooks, chops wood, handles the adult conversation, and is in charge of her family. Katniss shouted “I volunteer! I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute! Effie Trinket replied [pause] Uh... I believe we have a volunteer”. We see Katniss’ love for her sister through her unwavering stance. The look in her eyes told us that she was motivated, and that she was not going to let her sister be slaughtered. The way she held herself on screen to the audience told us that she had a sense of motivation and assertiveness. She pushed and shoved, and her motions became grander as she was fighting soldiers to get to her sister. Her hair shook in her face. Her eyes and mouth were wide open. She was open to the challenge of the Hunger Games. She was firm with her words, and her posture was straight up and down. She hugged her sister as she said goodbye, and she showed no negative emotions. She was strong for her sister, and expressed to her with a sincere, low base, and personal tone that she needed to take care of herself. When Prim was pulled away from her, Lawrence’s mouth was agape and her eyes were not blinking. She watched her sister as if it is the last time she might ever see her. As the scene progresses, Katniss stands near a microphone. Lawrence becomes quieter. She is processing what is about to happen. Now she moves slowly and she is not as definitive with her approach. Katniss thought he was being selfish, but in actuality, he was doing her a favor by making her seem desirable to sponsors, but she does not see it that way. She stares at him, like a lion about to kill a gazelle. She grabs him by the shoulder and slams him into the wall. She yells “What the hell was that? You don 't talk to me and then you say you have a crush on me? You say you want to train alone? Is this how you want to play? Huh? Let 's start right now!” Her eyebrows narrow in, and her teeth show as she screams at him. Her tone is harsh and loud. The folds on her forehead show as she frowns. She bites her teeth, and gets in his face. After the blowout, she goes on to do her interview as the girl on fire. She stands up straight, smiles, and is articulate when she speaks. Her voice is clear and easy to understand. Even though she is pretty, she has qualities of dominance. This dominant yet sensitive approach gives her the power, she needs to get a
