How Trust Weaves Through The Hunger Games
The dystopian book The Hunger Games by Suzan Collins can represent a theme called trust. Trust is to rely on another person because you feel safe with them and have confidence that they will not hurt or violate you. The theme of trust is demonstrated dramatically in this novel. Trust helps Katniss and Peeta greatly through the circumstances they go through. The characters create variances of reliable groups and alliances. Trust overall plays a huge role in the actions and future of the players in Hunger Games, specifically Katniss and Peeta.

During the feast Katniss gets spared by Thresh when she is about to die, Thresh saves her because of her alliance with Rue, “You better run now, Fire Girl”(Collins 228). Rue says this to save Katniss and to tell her to get to safety. In this situation, trust was the factor that helped Katniss survive. Trust is important and powerful, trust creates reliability and dependence. “You better run now, Fire Girl”(Collins 228). Thresh puts his trust in Katniss because of her relationship with Rue, and because of this Katniss can survive the feast. Trust allows an individual or group to work to accomplish something. In The Hunger Games situation, trust is a matter of life and death. Katniss and Rue Trust each other. In the wild Katniss encounters cracker jacks and Rue helps her kill them. Rue is helping Katniss fight off the enemies in the forest and they begin to create trust between each other: “ Rue has decided to trust me wholeheartedly”( Collins 206). Peeta does everything he can to protect Katniss. He fights off other people and gets hurt but still keeps Katniss safe, in the district 12 Peeta and Katniss have a trusting relationship: "To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed” ( Collins 32). Katniss is very grateful for Peeta caring for her and looking out for her. Peeta tries his best to keep her safe and to also keep himself safe. This kindness from Peeta paid off. Katniss and Peeta now have a trusting relationship. Despite the hardship Peeta and Katniss have been through, Peeta had never left Katniss and she soon learned she could trust him with her life. Peeta's care and selflessness allowed him to fight for Katniss and she was able to repay him with trust. This relationship is a growing trust relationship.
