People were more friendly, caring, giving, and honestly wanted to do what was right. Barney, Opie and Lucy sometimes let their minds get ahead of them but they honestly always had the best intentions in mind. Just like Lucy, Opie had his friends who thought his ideas weren’t necessarily wrong and that good intentions would take care of the ending result. Their wrongs were always made right and their problems were always fixed. For the most part both shows did not have a running storyline, except when Lucy was pregnant, and there was a conclusion at the end of each episode. Opie had a good relationship with his father ‘Pa’, and when he got in over his head he always could talk to him. Lucy had a good relationship with Ricky and even though she usually didn’t tell him her troubles, he was always there to bail her out of her many complications. Both shows have a comedic nature, and are never filled with dirty humor or anything questionable. They are both shows your children could watch without having to worry about what they might hear or learn in the show. Both Ricky and Andy had to overcome obstacles that were uncommon for their day. Ricky was in an interracial marriage, and wasn’t really used to the culture of New York.
