The 1920's, also known as the "Roaring 20's" or the "Jazz Age", was a time era filled with new inventions, for some wealth, and for others poverty. However, with this time period came along many changes for the United States. Inventions such as radios, automobiles, refrigerators, toasters, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, movies, credit and lay away, the instant camera, etc. we're only a few inventions that helped to make the 1920's as memorable as it is. This time period was a time that America bathed in prosperity which allowed U.S. citizens to enjoy more leisure time. This meant that people were getting rich which allowed them to spend more money. As a part of my dream job, the radio is a major factor in what I aspire to do. Without the radio, the career of a sports broadcaster would not even be possible. During the 1920's, the radio was one of the biggest inventions to be produced. This was how many families were informed about what was happening all over the world. Many families would gather around in a certain room at a certain time every night to listen to the radio broadcast that was coming on. Many families relied on the radio to bring them news, music entertainment, and even advertisements. During the 1920's a radio set would normally cost around $150.00. Many historians believe that the radio was what drew the nation closer together. One interesting fact to know about the radio during the 1920's was that by the middle of the 1920's an estimated 100 million radios were used. However, the last one that I chose to discuss in this discussion post is the instant camera. The instant camera during the 1920's was one of the most prized inventions! However, during the 1920's the instant camera was very different than it is today. Today, we are used to clicking a button and the photos turning out in a miraculous way. Back then, photographers were lucky if they could see a figure in the photo. This allowed precious moments to be captured and kept for forever. Even today, we love the thought of taking pictures no matter where we are. Pictures are a way for people to have a sentimental keepsake from a time that was dear to them. Instant cameras have found various uses throughout their history. Cameras today are used my a numerable amount of people including, detectives, photographers, police, family members, and even tourists! The instant camera had a great affect on the Jazz Age just as it still does today. If we didn't have photos, what could we reflect back on to remember some of the most valued times during our life.
