The FIFA World Cup has a significant economic, environmental and social impact on the country where it is held. FIFA, soccer’s world-wide governing organization with 204 partnering countries, is at the forefront of becoming a large universal business venture. It has been proven time and time again that the World Cup has had huge global impact not only internationally but even now in the United States. The sheer increase in revenue from the World Cup has shifted from the millions to billions and it attracts new sponsors each year. Originally the big companies such as Coca-Cola were the sole sponsoring source for these event but now every company wants a piece of the pie including cell phone companies, banks, and even restaurant chains. When America was the host of 1994 World Cup, 65% of the total money spent on funding was in sports. It is apparent that hosting a World Cup have a strong impact on the global economy (Smith, 2009). Looking toward 2018 and 2022, the United States is the leading bidder for the World Cups however, Great Britain has made a strong push for the 2018 bid and the 2022 games is still a toss-up.
