The year is 1861. You are a young boy only 10 years of age,named Tommy, your parents both died from smallpox. The monologue I chose to perform is from the movie You, Me, and Dupree, by Michael Lesieur and it is delivered by the character Randolph Dupree. Prior to the point of the movie the monologue is given, Dupree is fired from his job and loses his house due to taking five days off to attending Carl’s (his best friend) wedding as the best man. Carl welcomes him to stay at his house for a few days. During one of those days, Carl is called into work the morning he is supposed to give a career day speech to his wife’s elementary school classroom.

If I were asked to get the attention of my peers for a speech, I would first consider my audience because I have different groups of people I consider peers. I would also take into consideration the topic of the speech and utilize an appropriate attention grabber. For example, if I am giving a motivational speech, I might use the word courage. I could either incorporate that word into a powerful quote or tell a story about how courage “changed my life” or why it is a “necessary virtue” on the path to success. I think the most important part, in addition to the attention grabber, is to keep the audience’s attention throughout the speech.

With Shakespeare 's works of literature and drama being 400 years old it’s expected that many people don’t want Barb’s works to be taught in the curriculum in schools. Shakespeare 's works should not be taught to students in schools because it’s difficult for students to understand, his work is not culturally diverse, and is outdated for today’s students. First, it’s difficult for many students to understand Shakespeare’s dialogue.
