My Knowledge Claim Analysis

The claim that I am trying to evaluate is if it is possible to gain knowledge from history despite problems of bias. Bias is stated as a cause to feel or show inclination or prejudice for or against someone or something: basically choosing one opinion over another.

History is the discovery and collection of past events and is sometimes defined as a social and political science. It is a subject which is open to bias and we rely on the past to move forward and show us the path in life. Which in turn depends upon the way we feel (emotion), the way we perceive things (sense perception) and also what we have been told and taught (shared knowledge). History has to be scientific and logical in nature. Otherwise how can anyone know what evidence would prove his or her discovery. For example, the scientific method of observing, questioning, experimenting, etc. according to me facts are only proved when assumptions are made. In forming an assumption, a scientist must observe other experiments, evaluate them and then make a selection to form a category. So doesn’t that make the claim bias? As facts are not found by chance, scientists need to know where to start from and how to look for it. Therefore, scientists need to create a basic idea of what they’re searching for, only then will they be able to search for evidence that can confirm their assumptions.

The counter claim of this issue is that it is possible to attain knowledge from history despite biases. History tries to make us understand facts but to prove them we need to perform experiments that might fail but give us a clue of how to try it by another way.
