Does anyone know what actually biodiversity means? Well, no worries when I’m here. Biodiversity is another name for the variety of all living things on Earth (e.g. plants, animals, insects, and microorganisms as well as their interactions and their ecosystems.) Biodiversity comes in variety from within a species, among a species and within an ecosystem.
Biodiversity is an essential part of life, and us humans are leaving no chance of destroying what we call “Earth”. We are using up more resources than our planet Earth can replace or reproduce. This affects human settlements, because it limits natural resources of local areas, causes wild animal sightings and confrontations in communities, which can cause illnesses or diseases. Lastly, it affects the cycle of the ecosystem, which has a negative impact on the human economy. One main example of an invasive species is a beaver. Beavers are called the “ ecosystem engineers” because they physically change habitats. Some things they do that is good for us are; improves the clarity of the water, make space for new forestation, make a home for other species around them, and prevents droughts and floods. This affects human settlement because it increases the number of wild animal sightings and confrontations around the community. One example of it is in Oakville, Ontario where there were sightings of coyotes and foxes which people had to adjust to in order for safety. Habitat loss causes endangered species, some endangered species include; Pitcher Plants, Puerto Rican Parrot, Leatherback Turtle, Vancouver Island Marmot, Chinese Bahaba, Poison Frog and Beavers.
