Ever wonder why a certain website or page just won’t open? This could happen for many reasons but the most likely reason is that that page is being restricted or filtered, whether it be because of an inappropriate page or could show certain things not suitable for children. Many schools and parents at home try to protect their students or children from witnessing inappropriate things on the internet or prevent young children from going on dangerous or unsuitable sites. Many argue that having restrictions on the internet could interfere with a child’s learning, or overblock sites that could be useful but seen as inappropriate by the filters or restrictions, but internet filtering isn’t just to help students with education but in the way they …show more content…

Many adults, including parents and teachers, believe they can provide more protection for their children or students without restricting them from their education. As helpful as parents and teachers can be, the internet can be more efficient and can filter without overblocking or having people need it and not be able to find the necessary information. If parents need to know when their children are online, internet filters can provide logs of the time they were on the internet, and time reactions in order to control the time they have on the internet and the can also be configurations for age appropriateness(Ohlheiser). Filters can have their flaws and not work 100% of the time but it can help supervise children in order to help with their education. A combination of filtering and adult supervision could work the best to supervise children.

Internet filtering can have its flaws but overall can be very helpful and in some ways a necessity to a students education. To keep students from being exposed to harmful things on the internet, internet filters help protect what can be viewed and posted on the internet. A safe and protected internet could really help with the education of young
