Imagine you are being ripped away from your family and friends and then put into an arena. This is the experiences that tributes face in the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, this has changed someone named Katniss Everdeen in multiple ways. Even though Katniss won the games she suffered many negative effects. Katniss has severe anxiety after the games and Katniss becomes depressed and traumatized by all the deaths she has seen or done. One example that Katniss has been negatively affected is when Katniss has anxiety.
In the book, The Hunger Games, one of the main events is when Katniss volunteers for her sister, Prim, to participate in the annual Hunger Games. After reading this event, I was very surprised. I noticed that Katniss surprised herself by saying she would volunteer, but then quickly recovered once she remembered that the reaping would be shown on television. “…this is upsetting me and I don’t want to cry. When they televise the replay of the reapings tonight, everyone will make note of my tears, and I’ll be marked as an easy target.
What differences and similarities occur between a story of a society that extremely same and everything is controlled by government, and a society that inequality, differences rise and government only controls the outcome? The Giver and Hunger Games are popular novels that are first book of their series. While Hunger Games is a novel based on a society that problems occur from inequality and differences, focuses on the survival and which the main character Katniss stands out as a leader, and The Giver by Lois Lowry is a novel based on a society that problems occur from being too perfect and same, focuses on the importance of memory and past and which the main character Jonas stands out as a rebel for himself and very few people; both texts share similarities such as being dystopian novels which symbols used and one teenager stands out from a society and rebels. On the one hand, Hunger Games and The Giver contrast in many ways. Comparing the societies of these novels based on; while Hunger Games has a story of a society which has inequalities and differences, The Giver has a society that is too perfect, emotionless and same.
The Hunger Games: A Modern Day Odyssey? The Hunger Games is about a civilization that randomly selects two members from the different districts. Those two members are then forced to fight in an “arena” in which there is only one victor. In a way the Hunger Games is very similar to the Odyssey. The Odyssey begins years after the Trojan War has ended and Odysseus has not returned home.
Due to the events in the film, segregation is starting to reoccur in the world. Even though the world still has some segregation occurring in today’s world, The Hunger Games is trying to inform the people today that segregation is going to keep increasing over the years if people do not put a stop to it. In the film, there are 12 districts. The districts that are relatively closer to the capital seem to be living the life; however, as you move away from the capital the districts environment people are treated bad and are not up to date or well taken care of like the people near the capital.
Imagine your world is divided by the color of your blood. Red and Silver. Imagine your best friend is taken away to an arena of death because their name was pulled from a bowl of others names that just narrowly escaped death. Wouldn’t you want change? The twelve districts in theory should view the Hunger Games as the necessary tool that keeps Panem from uprising and self-destruction, however, the reception of the Games in the really poor districts clearly shows that the Capitol cannot reform them to think so. Statistically, the poor districts are always the most likely to lose one year’s competition because they lack resources to train tributes and their children are starving. Therefore, the response to the Hunger Games in the poor districts who are on the brink of starvation is the most dramatic. The districts in general and districts 11 and 12 in particular have suffered great injustices at the ruthless hands of the Capitol ; however, there is no greater injustice than The Hunger Games themselves not only are the people of Panem forced to surrender their children as tributes for the Capitol 's citizens viewing pleasure for a crime they had no hand in committing ,but they are also forced to watch helplessly as their children are killed in the most brutal of manners .In Catching Fire (2009) , President Snow decrees that " the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors" in order to get rid of Katniss once and for all ,and to further assert the Capitol 's dominance and quell any thoughts of rebellion(172).
Introduction: In the novel “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins an important idea the writer developed was the idea of Governmental Control and Oppression. This idea was important as it helped me understand an important message for teenager, the idea that laws could control some populations and abused of its power could cause those living suffering. Paragraph 1: Governmental Control in the “Hunger Games” was something that was really highlighted as people in the capitol had control over those living in the district. The district had strict laws inflicted upon them, making life difficult.
Theme # 1- No matter what tyrannical environment you live in, your identity can never be changed The Hunger Games focuses on the theme of identity and how it is immutable in any tyrannical environment. This tells the audience that no one can take away your identity and it can only be controlled by you. In the movie, 24 tributes are forced to enter a game where they kill each other in order to survive which led them to losing their identity and becoming pawns to entertain the people of the Capitol.
The hunger games by Suzanne Collins is typically called a dystopian novel. Since it sheds the light upon a utopian society that is controlled by the government. A society that is fooled by the totalitarian government of the Capitol in order to maintain power, and prevent the uprising of the Districts.that authority is practiced by making people from the districts live in a dehumanized state using another form of dystopia which is propaganda for the reason that they showed them the penalty of disobedience. Another characteristic of a dystopian society that we can see in the novel are keeping the players during the games under surveillance at all times, and everywhere. The last thing that make "The Hunger Games" a supreme example of a dystopian society is the fact that freedom is restricted by forcing the families from the districts to send their kids to death, also known as the hunger games.
Responsibility is key to survival in The Hunger Games because you must be responsible and careful before making a decision that depends on your life. “The price of greatness is responsibility.” (Winston Churchill) In The Hunger Games, two tributes, one male and one female under the age of eighteen, must leave their district to go and compete in The Hunger Games. While in the games all twenty-four tributes must fight to the death to entertain their Capital city.
The famous Roman orator and senator Publius Tacitus once wrote that “the more the laws, the more corrupt the government.” A corrupt system always tries to put restrictions and create laws in order to ensure that their power as an authority is not in danger of being disregarded. In Suzanne Collins’ renowned novel The Hunger Games, the Capitol is a corrupt system in Panem because it abuses its powers to control the citizens. It does so by forcing restrictions on the freedom of the people, favoring the rich and imposing harsh punishments.
The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins tells a story about a girl whose bravery changed the way people thought about their world. The three grueling challenges that the main character, Katniss Everdeen, had faced show what I believe to be challenging. The first challenge that I have chosen was when Katniss had to provide for her family by hunting in the woods for food. My second challenge that I have chosen was when Katniss and Rue began to form a bond during the games. My third challenge that I have chosen was when Katniss offered the Nightlock berries to Peeta.
