We have lost many lives because of railroad track and people lack of knowledge when they approach one. A few things that I have learned about crossing railroad tracks is that they are not on a set schedule, so when you are crossing a railroad track you should always assume there is one coming and stop before crossing. All track are considered private property, so you should never just cross them. Trains have to right away all the time, even over emergency vehicles, police, and other vehicles. The only time that you should cross a railroad is at designated pedestrian or roadway crossings, and make sure to always obey the railroad signs that are posted. The people driving are not the only ones that should be paying attention and make sure that everyone is safe. The driver of a train is supposed to ring a bell, blow a whistle one- quarter mile away from public crossings, keep headlights on bright, proceed with consistent timetable speed and safety of the train. Trains usually are moving both directions, so we need to watch for the second track. A second track is when you simply have two train tracks the danger of this would be that there is more than likely two trains approaching. W ithin the year of 2014 about 16 people were killed, and from the year of
2007 the number of deaths had increased by 17%.
The state has given us many things to make sure of our safety. Advance warning signs and pavement warning signs these are signs that are posted before you reach the crossing and tell you to slow down, look, listen and be prepared for a crossing ahead.
They provide us with railroad crossbuck signs, flashing lights, and gates. Safety tips for using railroad crossing, don’t get trapped on railroad crossings and if your car stops and is gets stuck you should get the passenger and yourself out of the way as soon
