Every year, we seem to hear more and more about softball players getting hit in the face or head with a ball. “Of all softball injuries last school year, 17.2% were head and face injuries.” ("Concussions, Broken Noses – In Softball? Here Comes The Face Mask.") Two years ago, ¼ of the injuries in softball had occurred with a player getting hit in the face. By wearing a face mask, players can easily prevent the numerous injuries that can happen, which will assure players that they will not have any severe injuries to the facial area, even if some don’t like how the face mask looks or feels, name brand companies can make a face mask that can suit any type of players needs.

When softball players wear a face mask during a game they can have a sense of reassurance, knowing they won’t get hit in the facial area. Getting hit can cause serious injuries and when players wear a mask, they can feel much safer. Softball player Lexay MacManus said “‘It has given me a sense of security. I can do more, I can go after [the ball] harder.’” (“There's No Time to React': Facemasks Becoming More Popular for Maine High School Softball Players.") During the interview with Warschauer, she also revealed that months after her injury, she was scared of getting hit again. She then decided to get a face mask for the last tournament of the season. She said, “It gave me piece at mind.” (Warschauer, Claire. Personal interview. 8 Dec. 2015.)

Many players get hurt year round. Injuries in softball occur because of the lack of protection. Softball players need to protect their head and face for the obvious reasons of serious injuries.
