Family roles in ancient history played an important part in family roles today. Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece varied in how their family roles worked. Depending on the civilization, roles varied for each family member. Those roles shaped the way some families worked, as well as how the civilization functioned.
In ancient Rome, family roles developed in different ways that many may not know. In ancient Rome, the father was the head of the household. The mother was supposed to remain at home and raise the children. Females were also controlled by the male members of their extended family. Large families were encouraged to carry on family lines and build up the paterfamilias. Paterfamilias are the male head of a family or household. Children played with toys and had fun. Looks were also important in this civilizations. Women wore ankle chiton and men wore togas. Girls were instructed by the females of the household.
