Is this drought going to be the end of farming in California? If California’s agricultural industry doesn 't get any water, then California farming will be a thing of the past. Farmers need more water or many people will lose their jobs, businesses that depend on farming (grocery stores) will fail, and the rest of the country also won’t get fruit from California.
First of all, if farmers don’t get enough water for their farms, then the employees that work on those farms will have to be let go (fired). In the serious informational text, “California’s Drought Ripples Through Businesses, Then to Schools”, by npr.org, published on 4/20/14, speaks from a farmer’s view, about how the drought is affecting schools and businesses, informing people worried about the drought affecting the economy. For instance, in the article it states, “ With less water, farmers are fewer big purchases, following hundreds of thousands, of acres and hiring fewer farm laborers. All of this they’re putting less money into the local economy.” As a result, without water for farming the crops will die off and farmers will send out less crops for stores. So, then those stores will have less products and soon shut down. Another example, is in the serious informational text, “A Drought For Business: How Water Shortages Will Impact Your Bottom Line”, by Ashtyn Douglas, posted on May 27, 2015, tells from a farmer’s view, how the drought affects farming, but it is really about how the drought affects the citizens, to people worried about the effects of the drought. In the text it says, “ Direct costs to the agriculture industry totaled $1.5 billion in 2014.” In addition, because farmers can’t provide the crops for these businesses they are losing billions of dollars. Sooner or later those companies are going to have to shut down and that will be a huge
