Seventeen students killed in gunfire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have been a controversial topic in recent days (Lopez, 2018). It is a great shame to read or hear about a kind of gun violence every day while living in a country where human rights are at the forefront of the world like the United States. There has been a lot of debate about whether the gun laws are strict enough and what people could do to reduce gun violence significantly. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), about 60% of gun deaths are from the 450000 incidents in the United States in 2012 (“Guns in the US: The statistics behind the violence”, 2016). In general, people tend to condemn homicides because of the gun; however, the reality is those gun accidents and suicide have astounding statistics. For instance, the number of deaths due to autopsies and gun accidents is several times higher than the number of deaths in gun-killed deaths; specifically, a Congressional study report estimates that more than 19,000 people died from gun-related suicide in 2011 (Lewis et al., 2015). Moreover, gun violence also directly affects the morale of the people, especially the young generation of the country. For example, the government spent $ 1 billion on security controls in schools and the public sector (Lewis et al., 2015). In addition, most gun violence in the United States is concentrated in poor areas, with high unemployment and high personal incidents. Therefore, the state needs to increase control and build infrastructures, such as schools and psychological treatment centers (Beckett et al., 2016). On the legal aspect, "place and manner" laws regulate restrictions or prohibitions on the use of firearms in public. Also, "restricted ownership" laws prohibit the sale of guns to certain subjects such as minors or drinkers; however, although these laws are useful, they have no effect everywhere. In recent years, the National Assembly is awaiting a law approval that will make gun owners more accountable by requiring them to attend courses and training each year (Stell, 2004).
