Honor; to be respected for an accomplishment or task. Honor is where a person is brave or has done something that has changed this world. They make an impact in their community or world. Jean Piaget was born August 9, 1896 in switzerland. He was the oldest kid in his family.
The honor code is often viewed with disdain by students who see its purpose solely as another set of rules to dutifully abide by. Administrators see it as a way to prevent cheating as seen through Source F where it states, “a number of colleges have found effective ways to reduce cheating and plagiarism… many of these colleges employ academic honor codes to accomplish these objectives.” This philosophy itself demonstrates a major flaw in the major purpose behind the honor code. The purpose of implementing an honor code should not be to eliminate cheating through making examples out of, mainly through expulsion and suspension, those who act with academic dishonesty. The purpose of the honor code should be above all, to foster a community where values such as integrity, honesty and respect are held in the highest regard.
An honor code or honor system is a set of rules or principles governing a community based on a set of rules or ideals that define what constitutes honorable behavior within that community. An honor code implements a set code that specifies certain rules in their school. An honor code doesn’t benefit students trust in their school system. An honor code can end up making students engage in mistrust, create misuse of the code, and can cause students to be at odds with each other. When students are forced to commit to an honor code, every student isn’t going to be 100% honest.
An honor code can be so effective that “many schools with academic honor codes allow students to take their exams without proctors present, relying on peer monitoring to control cheating” (Source F). Despite this system, there is research that “indicates that the significantly lower levels cheating” (Source F) at schools with honor codes. This is possible because there is a peer culture that denounces cheating, making kids embarrassed to commit academic dishonesty. Such a peer culture was formed by educating the students about the value of academic dishonesty.
Honor is abiding by an uncompromising code of integrity, taking responsibility for our actions and keeping our word in any situation whether observed or on our own. Having commitment is exhibiting the highest degree of
Honor is something deep down, everyone is striving to obtain. It can be defined in many ways, and forms, nevertheless they all come to the same conclusion. Honor is thinking of others first; it is giving your life for others, and not worrying about yourself. It is doing something just for the action itself, not the reward. American honor is being selfless, it is very much the same in different cultures and countries, although some people argue that it has stayed the same, it has drastically changed over the years.
Honor is a quality that warriors need to gain respect from their peers. Warriors gained respect multiple ways. They never fought for money, never disobeyed commands from their master, never retreat in battle, being helpful to ladies, etc. Those were just some ways samurai and knights gained respect. Both warriors act similarly to gain respect from others.
Without integrity the honor system would fail due to the lack of honesty that is being set in place by having the students taking a pledge. With this being said students that take school seriously want pure focus and having the honor code it allows these principles to be put in place for better grades and higher rates of success. The author Chris Kahn in Source D uses a quote that shows the students use to commit to the honor code, “On my honor as a student, I have neither given nor received aid on this assignment/exam.” Kahn says that these students write the quote on every test that they turn in to provide a reminder that they are under the honor code. This is a strategy that is a strict form of the honor system letting the students to have complete trust in each other and to have the educators trust.
Honor is a word that has avery high meaning, what I
Love is a lot of sacrifices. There are things that we need to sacrifice because of love, and sometimes we need to sacrifice our love for the sake of other people around us, and because we love them we need also to be honest with them. As a saying says “Honesty is the Best Policy“. What about honor???Honor is a self-esteem made visible in action. Maricel Pagmol said “Honor is like a match you only use it once”.
The true definition of honor is “a privilege” or “high respect”. To me honor means having courage to be committed to or feel pride for something or someone, so I guess I’m not that far off. Around the world there are many honorable people and honorable scientists. One scientist is a man famous for his inventions but mostly for his world known art pieces including The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. He was also the only left handed artist of his time.
Sometimes, we don’t give ourselves permission to be our true selves out of fear of what others may think or due to truly integrate the various parts of ourselves into one, complete whole person. We apply integrity in school by honesty, honor, respect, social responsibility, and the courage to stand up for what we believe is right. Honesty and trust are central to integrity. Acting with honor and truthfulness are also important for someone with integrity. When we are honest we built strength of character that will allow us to be good with God and others.
The belief of respect is important that managers, supervisors, employees at the organization also reflect organization’s culture and manner. I realized that respect others is an effective way to improve my own quality and it requires me to respect others’ achievement and custom. Therefore, respect is my basic quality and I have to be patient with each employee although I am a leader in the future career. 4.2 Examining Political, Cultural and Social Realities Power is defined as a capacity that the behavior of A has to be affected and act according to B’s wishes (Robbins et al., 2010).
There are many reasons why respect is the key to success. Throughout our lives, we will work with many people. Whether we like them or not, we still need to respect them in order to complete the assignment. For example, a teacher pairs me up with people I dislike. Even though I dislike them, I still have to work with them and treat their ideas and opinions with respect.
We are taught the difference between the right and wrong since our childhood but are always told that the lying and cheating always makes things difficult but when students go to school and college they are faced with different dilemma as then the cheating seems to be the easier way to get good grades. They do not really see cheating as the wrong way of doing things they see it as an easy way of doing things .They do not even consider it as an unethical thing because they have been taught that to do the right thing is the easy way .They are taught that the right path and the ethical path is always the easy one but in reality that is not true. The ethical and right path is difficult and complex as J.K.Rowling has said, “Sometimes we must choose between what is right and what is easy.”
