Being individual is important, because everyone is their own person and not one person is like another. The definition of individualism is the habit or principle of being independent and self-reliant. If you live in the United States you are able to be individual. In some countries that are totalitarian, you don 't have the freedom to be who you want to be and what you want to do. Without individualism you wouldn 't be able to read what you want, have the job that you want, go to the school that you want, listen to the music that you want, and you wouldn 't be able to do what you want to do on your free time. Individualism is important to society because we would be able to be who we want, you get to look at problems with different perspectives, and you get to choose your religion. If you aren 't allowed to be who you want, then who are you? Being who you want to be is important to individualism because you should be able to be who you want to be. You can choose to read what books you want, watch the movies you want, hang out with the people you want, and do what you want if you live in a country that allows individualism. It 's good too have a different perspectives on life, because if you have a different perspective you can get different views on what you should do and so you don 't do something that you think was the right decision when everyone else thinks it would be the wrong decision. Having a perspective that isn 't yours is good so that you have different views on what happening and on what will happen. Think about if you tell you friend that you are going to break up with someone and he tells you to do it, but your other friend tells you not to do it because certain reasons. Even though you think your perspective is right or you think it’s the right decision to do something, it’s still proper to get different opinions and perspectives on the subject that you think would be alright to
