Writing, for me, has always been a relaxing pastime. I find that as I get older, not only do I enjoy the writing but I truly enjoy going back to read some of the journal entries that I wrote five, ten and even 15 years ago. Oh, the discoveries I have made! Some are quite amusing while others are confusing to me even now. I find myself asking ‘why ever did I do that?’
Journal writing can be life-changing. I have found that it truly isn’t just the writing but the profound sense of wonder and accomplishment that I feel whenever I have completed my day with my thoughts and questions. Yes, I do include many questions of which some I do have an answer and some others that I simply don’t know and still some other questions that I am still searching for the answers.

I know that in today’s world everyone is texting or emailing. Journaling is a process by which you are connecting your heart to your mind. It is important that you write using your hand and paper and not type or text on your computer or cell phone. The connection between your hand and your thoughts are important elements in journal writing. There is a certain type of flow that occurs when you are in the act of writing that does not happen when you type or text. Write with a pen not a pencil. The pen should give you a good feeling. You’ll know it when you use it to write. You might be asking why not write with a pencil? Good question. When you use a pencil for whatever purpose, maybe a shopping list or a note to yourself as a reminder, do you ever erase? Probably you have. In journaling, your words should flow and if the thought is there and you write it, leave it. If you change your mind about a word just draw a line or two through the word.
